Safeguarding
Child Safety
Working with Children Check guidance for members and volunteers involved in child-related activities.
Reporting a concern
If a child or young person is in immediate danger, call 000. Child safety concerns about lifesaving can be reported through the official Surf Life Saving reporting portal or raised with Life Saving Victoria's integrity team.
You do not need to investigate a concern yourself. Record what you observed or were told, preserve any relevant information and use the official reporting pathway.
Working with Children Check
Working with Children Check Victoria now issues valid assessment notices by email. Life Saving Victoria is committed to safeguarding children and young people, and child safe practice requires conscious action from clubs and members.
Life Saving Victoria and lifesaving clubs have obligations under the Worker Screening Act 2020. The WWCC helps protect children and young people from sexual and physical harm by screening adults who work with them in paid or volunteer roles.
Assessment notices are now emailed when a member applies or reapplies, changes personal details, or adds a lifesaving club and LSV to their WWCC.
- All relevant members under the LSV policy must hold a current WWCC.
- Life Saving Victoria and the member's lifesaving club must both be listed as organisations.
- The club must receive a valid assessment notice by email before child-related activities begin.
