Training pathways for members who want to patrol, lead, rescue, provide emergency care, operate powercraft or support statewide services.

Quality training through Life Saving Victoria

Lifesaving clubs partner with Life Saving Victoria, a registered training organisation (RTO 21799) regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority, to deliver accredited and quality-assured training.

Awards and competencies are delivered through the volunteer training system by club trainers and assessors. Some courses have minimum face-to-face hours, age requirements, fitness prerequisites or previous awards that must be completed first.

Choose one of two training paths

If you do not yet hold the Bronze Medallion, start with Entry level. If you already hold your Bronze, go straight to Beyond your Bronze. The Chief Instructor can confirm the best course and next available intake.

Pathway 1

Entry level — earn your Bronze

Choose the delivery format that suits you. Both pathways lead toward the Bronze Medallion, the core qualification for active patrolling lifesavers.

Bronze Camp

An intensive December program for members aged 15+ who are ready to earn their Bronze Medallion and join patrols.

Adult Bronze Program

A flexible club-based route for adults who cannot attend the residential Bronze Camp format.

Beyond your Bronze

Already qualified? Choose the capability you want to build next. Course timing and prerequisites vary, so check the award page and confirm availability with the Chief Instructor.

Patrol leadership — SMPC

Develop the judgement and beach-management skills required to lead patrols.

First aid & emergency care

Build CPR, first aid and emergency response capability for patrol and club activities.

ARTFA

Train in advanced resuscitation, oxygen therapy, bag valve masks and suction equipment.

IRB crew & driver

Progress into inflatable rescue boat crew and driver roles for rescue operations.

Specialist & statewide services

Explore Training Officer, pain management, RWC operator and other LSV-managed pathways.
